Centre for Visual Arts

The Centre for Visual Arts is part of the Humanities and the School of Language, Media Studies and the Creative Arts.

The Centre for Visual Arts has up-to-date facilities, including a gallery, a lecture theatre, a fully equipped ceramic studio, an Apple Mac digital laboratory, expansive painting studios and a fully equipped printmaking studio. It provides a wide-ranging instruction in both the practical and theoretical aspects of the visual arts.

Visual arts modules are integral to BAVA degree. They may also be taken as electives for the BA and BA Social Science degrees.

Students may choose from the following modules:

Students wishing to major in Fine Art should ensure that they complete 

 - two modules (32 credits) in their chosen area of specialization

 - two modules of either Drawing or Digital Arts (should they wish to pursue Digital Art at the third level)

Senior and honours Digital Arts students exhibited their 3D work and comic books at the Jack Heath Gallery at UKZN’s Centre for Visual Art (CVA). UKZN's Centre for Visual Art unveils refurbished printing press

DVC and Head of the College of Humanities Professor Cheryl Potgieter recently unveiled the restored Albion printing press at the Centre for Visual Art (CVA) in Pietermaritzburg. Through special funding made available by the College, the Centre received new equipment, such as kilns for ceramic and glass pieces as well as 20 new potters’ wheels.[..]
